Panthers improve to 2-0 in dual meet
HENNIKER, N.H. – Junior Nicole
Brodeur (Claremont, N.H.) won three individual events and
swam on a winning relay team Sunday afternoon as Plymouth State
University defeated Colby-Sawyer College, 132-125, in collegiate
women's swimming and diving action.
The Panthers won 11 of the 15 events in the meet. Brodeur
touched the wall first in the 100-yard freestyle in 59.58 seconds,
the 50-yard butterfly in 30.19 seconds, and the 100-yard butterfly
in 1:06.59. Junior Brittney Gondek (South
Glastonbury, Conn.) and sophomore Jennifer Samaro
(Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) also won two individual events each
for the Panthers, Gondek taking the 50-yard backstroke in 31.78
second and the 100-yard backstroke in 1:08.76 and Samaro finishing
first in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:51.68 and the 1000-yard free
in 12:02.24.
Brodeur, Samaro and Gondek were also joined by freshman
Delia Foley (Londonderry, N.H.) to post a winning
time of 4:06.45 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Also winning events for PSU were junior Lara
Gruner (Center Barnstead, N.H.) in the 200-yard free
(2:13.16) and freshman Shannon Rogers (Beverly,
Mass.) in the one-meter diving (97.15 points).
The Chargers were led by freshman Erin Dunican (Bennington, Vt.),
who was a winner in three individual events and one relay.
She captured victories in the 50-yard breaststroke (34.21 seconds)
and 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.22) and the 50-yard freestyle
(27.29 seconds). She also teamed with junior Morgan Parker
(Keene, N.H.), senior Natalie Whaley (Deep River, Conn.) and
sophomore Kat Donohue (Sandy Hook, Conn.) to win the first event of
the day, the 200-yard medley relay, with a time of 2:02.99.
The Panthers, 2-0, will be back in the pool on Saturday, Dec. 4, at
the annual Little East Conference Championships meet at the
University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
