Graham and Brodeur lead Panthers to victory
WESTON, Mass. – Senior Lindsay
Graham (Framingham, Mass.) captured four events and junior
Nicole Brodeur (Claremont, N.H.) won three Friday
evening as the Plymouth State University women's swimming and
diving team opened the season with a 124-112 victory over Regis
College.
Both Panther swimmers won two individual events, Graham capturing
the 50-yard and 100-yard breaststroke in 36.79 seconds and one
minute, 18.52 seconds, respectively, and Brodeur touching the wall
first in the 50-yard freestyle (27.42 seconds) and 50-yard
butterfly (30.01). Graham also swam the breaststroke leg on
the winning 200-yard medley relay, both were members of the
first-place 400-yard freestyle relay.
Plymouth State showed a balanced team, with eight different
Panthers winning individual events. In addition to Graham and
Brodeur, junior Brittney Gondek (South
Glastonbury, Conn.) won the 200-yard free (2:10.02), freshman
Delia Foley (Londonderry, N.H.) took the 500 free
(5:53.67), sophomore Amy Mulhern (Taunton, Mass.)
won the 50 back (32.60), sophomore Jennifer Samaro
(Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) captured the 200 individual medley
(2:27.52), and freshman Jackie Viotto (Morristown,
N.J.) was first in the 100 fly (1:11.65). Freshman
Shannon Rogers (Beverly, Mass.) was also
successful in her collegiate debut in the one-meter diving.
Sophomore Christina Estrada took first place in two events for
Regis, capturing the 1000 free and 100 free. Teammate Lindsay
Ranahan also earned first place points for the Pride in the 100
backstroke.
The Panthers will journey back to the same pool next Saturday, Nov.
13, for the Regis College Invitational, beginning at 12
noon.
