BOSTON,
Mass. - Junior Kristen Smith (Beavercreek, Ohio) scored a
hat trick and juniors Lauren Duran (Woburn, Mass.) and Rachel Sousa
(Woburn, Mass.) each added two goals and one assist Friday
afternoon to lead the University of Massachusetts Boston women's
ice hockey team past Plymouth State University, 11-0, in an ECAC
East Conference game at the Clark Athletic Center rink.
The red-hot
Beacons posted their school-record eighth straight victory to
advance to 14-7-0 overall and 11-4-0 in league play, while PSU
remains winless at 0-21-0 and 0-16-0.
UMB led 3-0
after one period as sophomores Brittany Usmail (New Hartford, N.Y.)
and Whitney Fraleigh (Fresno, Calif.) and Sousa each tallied
goals. The Beacons put the game away in the second frame with
five unanswered tallies, two from Smith and one apiece from Duran,
Sousa and sophomore Karoline Perdios (Braintree, Mass.). The
winners rounded out the scoring with three more goals in the third
period, one each from Duran and Smith and the first of the season
by senior Katelyn Lajoie (Marlboro, Mass.)
Both teams are
back on the ice with conference games Saturday afternoon, Plymouth
State continuing its weekend road trip with a visit to Nichols
College for a 12:30 p.m. faceoff and UMB hosting the University of
Southern Maine in a 1:00 p.m. puck drop.
