HENNIKER, N.H. - New England College's Kate Kellar
(Pittsfield, Mass.) netted two goals and dished out two assists
Friday afternoon, leading the Pilgrims past the visiting Plymouth
State University Panthers 6-0 at Lee Clement Arena. The Pilgrims
improve to 9-10-3 on the season, while the loss drops the Panthers
to 0-19-0 overall.
The Pilgrims
started the scoring early as Sam Hippern (Dover, N.H.) recorded her
first collegiate goal just 5:39 into the game. Rachel White
(Arlington, Mass.) gave the Pilgrims the 2-0 advantage just minutes
later when she fired in a break-away shot at the 8:41 mark. NEC
would tack on power-play goal late in the period as Kaleigh
Costello (Hudson, N.H.) scored off a pass from Hippern.
NEC extended
its lead to 5-0 in the second period as Kellar scored both goals,
including her fifth of the season at 2:50 and then a rebound of a
White shot at the 14:23 mark. NEC's Costello would net the final
Pilgrim goal of the afternoon on a Pilgrim power-play in the third
period.
Plymouth State
sophomore Nicole Provencher (Guilford, Conn.)
stopped an impressive 51 shots on net as the Pilgrims finished the
game out shooting the Panthers 57-9. Picking up the win in net for
NEC was Kristen Conners (Weymouth, Mass.) who finished with nine
saves.
PSU completes
the weekend doubleheader Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. face-off at
Saint Anselm College. NEC will be home again Saturday at 1:00
p.m. against Southern Maine.
