AUBURN,
Mass. - Freshman defenseman Richie Zobak
(Evergreen Park, Ill.) scored the game-tying goal midway through
the third period Saturday evening as Plymouth State University and
Worcester State College drew to a 2-2 tie in MASCAC men's ice
hockey action at the Horgan Memorial Rink.
After a
scoreless first period, the Lancers drew first blood at 3:45 of the
second as junior Justin Brownstein (Wyncote, Pa.) opened the
scoring with a power play goal. The Panthers responded 39
seconds later as junior David Rose (Haddonfield,
N.J.) took advantage of a Panther power play with his fourth goal
of the season.
Junior Billy
O'Neill (Strafford, Pa.) gave the Lancers a 2-1 lead early on in
the third when they had a 5-on-4 opportunity at 6:43. That set the
stage for Zobak who knotted the score at 10:16 with some help from
junior Andrew Stewart (O'Leary, PEI) and classmate
Sean Buckley (Sagamore Beach, Mass.)
The Panthers
out-shot WSC 16-9 from the third stanza on, including a 6-0 lead in
the extra session. PSU had defeated the Lancers 4-1 and
7-1 earlier this season.
Plymouth
State moves to 12-7-1 overall and 8-4-1 in the conference, while
Worcester State is now 5-11-2 and 3-8-2 in the MASCAC.
Freshman Zach
Hansen (Dexter, Mich.) recorded his second straight tie for the
Lancers as he stopped 36 of the 38 shots while senior Aaron
Runner (Alpharetta, Ga.) collected 25 saves for the
visitors.
The Lancers
continue their season on the road Thursday at Assumption at 7:35
p.m. while Plymouth State will face off at Salem State on the same
day at 7 p.m.
