Morin leads Panthers in setback
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Saint Michael's
College rallied from a set down Tuesday evening to defeat Plymouth
State University, 3-1, in non-conference women's volleyball
action at Foley Gymnasium.
PSU won a tightly-contested opening set, 25-22, but the Purple
Knights came back to win the next three sets, 25-18, 25-15 and
25-22, to take the match. Saint Michael's won its
fourth straight match to move to 4-1 on the season, while PSU
dropped it's third in a row and fell to 5-4.
Senior Lindsey Frazier (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) led the Purple Knights
with 12 kills on the evening, while sophomore Katie Walsh (North
Kingstown, R.I.) added eight kills and six service aces.
Sophomore Courtney Dunne (Hopkinton, Mass.) finished with a
team-high 19 digs, and freshman setter Jessica McLeod (Medfield,
Mass.) collected 45 assists. Saint Michael's is coached
by former Plymouth State men's club team player Chris Kilmer,
who is now in his third season.
Junior Elissa Morin (Nashua, N.H.) led the
Panthers with 10 kills and three blocks, while sophomore
Casey Stoodley (Salem, N.H.) added seven kills and
a team-best 13 digs. Junior libero Alex
Avery (Milton, N.H./Nute) contributed 11 digs.
The Panthers travel to Western Connecticut this Saturday for the
first Little East Conference match of the year (12 noon), which
will be followed by a non-conference match against Saint Joseph
College at 2:00 p.m. Saint Michael's will play a
tri-match this Saturday at Middlebury College with Amherst
College.
