Box Score Panthers to face Wm. Paterson in tourney
final
BRISTOL, R.I. – Freshman Anders
Olsson (Sturefors Sweden) and junior Dre
Cabral (Tokyo, Japan) scored one goal apiece Saturday
afternoon as the Plymouth State University men's soccer team
defeated Norwich University, 2-1, on the first day of the sixth
annual season-opening Roger Williams University Turfer Classic.
The Panthers will meet William Paterson University (N.J.) in the
championship match on Sunday at 1:30 p.m., as Paterson edged host
Roger Williams in the first game Saturday, 2-1. Roger
Williams and Norwich will play in the consolation game Sunday at
11:00 a.m. Plymouth State defeated Roger Williams in overtime
in last year's championship clash.
Plymouth State carried the play in the first half and owned a 13-1
advantage in shots. The Panthers got on the board at the
25-minute mark when Olsson converted a bicycle kick in the box for
his first goal, assisted by senior Eric Owens
(Newton, N.H.). PSU extended its lead to two goals early in
the second half when Cabral scored on a header from a free kick by
sophomore Parker Spear (Sodus Point, N.Y.)
Norwich got on the board in the 63rd minute on an own
goal from Plymouth State. That ended up as all the scoring, and PSU
wound up with a 22-3 shot advantage for the game.
