Panthers fall to Minn.-Morris but sweep

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Plymouth State
University women's volleyball team split a pair of
non-conference matches Sunday afternoon, falling to the University
of Minnesota Morris in straight sets in the first match and taking
down Colby-Sawyer College in three sets in the second.
The Panthers, who won their first two matches of the season
Saturday over Norwich University and Plattsburgh State (N.Y.), were
no match for Minn.-Morris, falling by scores of 25-9, 25-11, and
25-16. PSU regrouped and came back with a tough 25-18, 28-26,
25-18 triumph over Colby-Sawyer. PSU finishes the weekend at
3-1, while Minn.-Morris is 3-3 and Colby-Sawyer is 0-3.
Sophomore transfer Casey Stoodley (Salem, N.H.)
had another strong day for the Panthers, recording a team-high
eight kills in the loss to UMM, and following with a strong
double-double against the Chargers with a team-leading 15 kills and
21 digs. Junior Alex Avery (Milton,
N.H./Nute) topped the team in digs in both matches, registering 11
against UMM and 22 vs. Colby-Sawyer.
PSU used a balanced offense in the win over Colby-Sawyer.
Stoodley led the way with 15 kills while junior Elissa
Morin (Nashua, N.H.) added six, junior Meghan
Sullivan (Marlton, N.J.) and freshman Allie
Jones (Canton, Mass.) contributed five kills each and
freshmen Kaitlyn Tedeschi (Pascoag, R.I.) and
Shannen Vaughn (Farmington, N.H.) chipped in with
four apiece. Junior setter Sarah Cady
(Holliston, Mass.) finished with 33 assists.
The Panthers return to action next weekend at the Endicott
Invitational in Beverly, Mass., facing Bowdoin College Friday in
its first match at 5:00 p.m.
