Falcons sink Panthers in first meet of 2011
WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University
women's swimming and diving team proved too strong for
Plymouth State University Thursday afternoon, winning 14 of the 16
events to capture a 151-116 victory over the Panthers at the Dana
Center pool.
The unbeaten Falcons improve to 6-0 in dual meets this season,
while PSU has its dual-meet record evened at 2-2. Both teams
were competing for the first time in nearly a month since taking a
break for final exams and the holidays.
The highlights of the meet for the Panthers were provided by
juniors Nicole Brodeur (Claremont, N.H.) and
junior Brittney Gondek (South Glastonbury,
Conn.). Brodeur captured first place in the 50-yard butterfly
with a time of 30.11 seconds, and she took second in the 100-yard
butterfly in 1:09.01 and third in the 100-yard freestyle I
1:01.85. Gondek earned PSU's other victory, winning the
200-yard freestyle in 2:11.67 before taking second in the 100-yard
backstroke in 1:07.28.
Plymouth State will host the annual Alumni meet this Saturday at
the PSU Natatorium at 1:00 p.m. The next meet for the
Panthers is next Wednesday, Jan. 12, at Keene State (1:00
p.m.)
