PSU Women's Tennis defeats Franklin Pierce

Panthers to host UMB Saturday for Senior Day

            PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Plymouth State University swept the three doubles matches and took four of the six in singles Thursday afternoon en route to a 7-2 victory over Franklin Pierce University in a non-conference women's tennis match at the P.E. Center Indoor Courts.

            Junior Sara Burke continued her terrific season for PSU, winning in straight sets at No. 1 singles to improve her season mark to 8-4.  She has posted the most wins in a season for PSU's No. 1 singles player since 2007.  Burke and sophomore Molly Heartfield also came back from a 6-5 deficit at No. 1 doubles to pull out an 8-6 triumph.

            Junior Elizabeth Silsby and sophomore Jane Duggan collected an 8-4 decision at No. 3 doubles for PSU, and seniors Lydia Smith and Megan Cooper paired up for a 9-8 (10-8) win at No. 2 doubles.

            Leading 3-0 after doubles, PSU clinched the team victory with singles wins by Silsby at No. 4 and Burke at No. 1. The Ravens got on the board with singles wins by senior Mariama Bonetti at No. 6 and classmate Kaitlin Krolikowski at No. 2.

            PSU wrapped up the match win a pair of pro-set triumphs by Heartfield at No. 3 and Cooper at No. 6.  Plymouth State improves to 8-4 overall, matching the most wins in a season since 2006, while Franklin Pierce drops to 1-4.

            The Panthers will play their final home match of the season Saturday on Senior Day at the P.E. Center Courts; PSU will host the University of Massachusetts Boston in a Little East Conference match with post-seasons seeds still on the line.  FPU returns home to host Merrimack College on Friday.
