Panthers to face Coast Guard in title match
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Junior Casey
Stoodley had 19 kills, eight digs and five aces as
second-seeded Plymouth State University came-from-behind and fought
off a pair of match points to defeat third-seeded Endicott College,
3-2, in the semifinals of the ECAC Division III New England
Volleyball Championship.
Plymouth State, which won by game scores of 25-22, 22-25, 16-25,
27-25, 15-8 will take on top-seeded Coast Guard in the championship
match at 5:00.
The Panthers (25-10) scored the final two points in the opening
game, a game in which neither team led by more than three points,
to win 25-22.
Endicott (16-16) scored eight of the final nine points in game two
for a 25-22 win. The Gulls battled back from an early 7-3 deficit
and even trailed 21-17 before tying the match.
The Gulls jumped out to a 6-3 lead in the third game before four
straight Plymouth points gave the Panthers a 7-6 edge. Endicott
later used a 7-1 spurt to take its largest lead of the game 18-11
before winning 25-16.
In the fourth game, Plymouth led 11-8 before Endicott used a 6-1
run for a 14-12 edge. The game was tied at 19-19 and went
back-and-forth before the Gulls led 24-23 and had match point.
Endicott also had a match point at 25-24 before the Panthers ran
off three straight to tie the match with a 27-25 win.
The Panthers scored the first four points of the fifth game and led
7-1. Endicott would make a run cutting the deficit to 9-7 before
Plymouth State six of the final seven points to advance to the
championship match.
Sophomore Allie
Jones had 12 kills while junior Elissa
Morin had eight kills and a team-high four blocks.
Senior Danielle
Stoodley led the way with 31 digs while senior
Sarah
Cady had a team-high 36 assists for the Panthers.
Sophomore Callie Dolan had a career-high 20 kills to go with five
blocks to lead Endicott while junior Falyn Torelli had 12 kills and
senior Elyse Barbour added 11 kills.
Also for Endicott, freshman Hannah Dahlgren had five blocks, junior
Ashley Norley had a match-high 34 digs and senior Sarah Allshouse
led the way with a match-high 46 assists.
