Panthers to meet Elms in consolation game

               CHICOPEE, Mass. – Fourth-ranked Amherst College sprinted to a 51-30 halftime lead Friday night and went on to defeat Plymouth State University, 90-63, in the second game of the Elms College Men's Basketball Tip-Off Tournament at Picknelly Arena.

              Williams & Lee defeated Elms in the first game, 72-68. The tournament shifts to Amherst on Saturday and the Ken Wright Memorial Invitational as Elms will square off against Plymouth State in the consolation game at 1:00 p.m. followed by Amherst and Washington & Lee at 3:00 p.m. in the championship game.

              Four of the Lord Jeffs' five starters finished with double figure point totals as Willy Workman led all scorers with 18 points. Aaron Toomey and Taylor Barrise registered 12 points each as all 12 of Barrise's came by way of the three-pointer.

              David Waller added 11 points and five rebounds while Peter Kaasila also hauled in five boards and chipped in seven points.

              Plymouth State was led by Petey Skevas, who scored 15 points, while Brian Chergey netted 10 and Jesse Sabolis and Shomari Morgan added nine apiece.
