Box Score Panthers blanked by struggling Owls
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Freshman forward Vince Perreault
recorded a goal and two assists and freshman goalie Eddie Davey
registered 27 saves Thursday night to lead Westfield State
University to a stunning 4-0 victory over Plymouth State University
in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC)
men's ice hockey action.
Westfield, lodged in last place in the seven-team conference,
knocked Plymouth out of a three-way tie for first place and into a
tie for third place with the huge home victory. Westfield is now
3-14-2 overall and 2-9-1 in the MASCAC; Plymouth is 11-3-5 and
6-3-3.
Junior A.J. Shiverdecker scored the game-winning goal for Westfield
1:48 into the second period. The Owls then pulled way in the third
period with early power play goals from Perreault and Jeff
Callahan, followed by a shorthanded goal by Ian Reopel with 8:27
remaining.
Also recording two assists for the Owls were Dennis Zak and Josh
McCully.
Davey - a freshman from Orangeville, Ontario - got the big shutout
victory in his fifth appearance this season.
Both teams are back on the ice with conference home games on
Saturday, PSU hosting Worcester State and Westfield entertaining
MASCAC leading UMass Dartmouth.
