Panthers extend win streak to five
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Plymouth State
University women's volleyball team is one of three schools in a tie
for first place after one day of the annual Johnson & Wales
University Wildcat Fall Classic, hosted by JWU at the Harborside
RAC.
Plymouth State, Western Connecticut State University and MIT each
posted perfect 2-0 records Friday, PSU collecting 3-0 victories
over host JWU and City College of New York. The tournament
will resume on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
The Panthers swept Johnson & Wales in the first match Friday,
25-12, 30-28, 25-15. Junior Casey
Stoodley posted a double-double, reaching double
figures in both kills (10) and digs (11). Sophomore
Allie
Jones contributed eight kills while junior Elissa
Morin added seven kills and an impressive .429
attack percentage. Senior Alex
Avery made a team-high 13 digs.
PSU needed only three sets to capture the match against CCNY,
winning 25-13, 26-24, 25-20. Jones led the way for PSU with
10 kills and Avery recorded nine digs and two aces.
Now on a five-match winning streak, PSU (9-5) will meet MIT at 9:30
a.m. and UMass Dartmouth at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at the
Harborside RAC.
