Bears blank Panthers in LEC match; Senior Day set for Saturday vs. UMB

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – League-leading Bridgewater State University had little trouble against Plymouth State University Monday afternoon as the undefeated Bears powered past the Panthers, 9-0, in a Little East Conference women's tennis match at the P.E. Center Courts.

The Bears remain unbeaten in 2013, improving to 11-0 overall and remain atop the Little East standings with a 7-0 mark.  BSU, which clinched the No. 1 seed in next week's LEC Tournament, has captured 25 consecutive LEC regular season matches, dating back to 2010.  PSU dropped its second in a row and fell to 6-5 overall and 3-4 in conference play.

Senior Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, Mass.), the two-time LEC Player of the Year, led the Bears with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles.  She has won 10 singles matches in a row to improve her record to 10-1 this season.  Williamson also teamed up with classmate Lauren Hopp (Dartmouth, Mass.) for an 8-1 triumph at No. 1 doubles.  Hopp was a 6-3, 6-3 winner at No. 3 singles to improve her record to 10-1.

Senior Jackie McGuirk (Raynham, Mass.) and junior Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, Mass.) paired up for an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles before each won in straight sets in singles, McGuirk at No. 2 and Flynn at No. 5.  McGuirk improved to 10-1 on the season, while Flynn is 8-3 and they are 11-2 together in doubles play.

Sophomore Alison Vautrin (Somerset, Mass.) and junior Rachael Eramo (Rowley, Mass.) completed BSU's group of double-winners.  They took the No. 3 doubles match by an 8-5 score, and won in straight sets at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Vautrin is now 6-1 in singles this fall and Eramo is 8-1.

Both teams wrap up the regular season this week with Senior Day home matches, as BSU hosts Salem State University Friday at 3:00 p.m. and PSU entertains the University of Massachusetts Boston Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
