PSU Women's Tennis blanks Johnson State

Panthers use team effort to down Badgers

            PLYMOUTH, N.H. – It was a clean sweep for the Plymouth State University women's tennis team Sunday afternoon as the Panthers defeated Johnson State College 9-0 at the P.E. Center Courts.

            Sophomore Nitsa Ioannides (El Cajon, Calif.) led the Panthers, winning the match at No. 1 singles in straight sets after teaming with freshman Nikki Lund (Hingham, Mass.) with a victory at No. 1 doubles.  Lund also won in straight sets in the No. 3 singles slot.

            Seniors Jane Duggan (Saunderstown, R.I.) and Chelsea Thibeault (Manchester, N.H.) were also double winners for the Panthers.  They teamed up for an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles and followed with straight-set wins at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, respectively.

             Freshman Rachel Gustafson (Belchertown, Mass.) won a pair of matches as well, taking the No. 5 singles encounter and pairing up with sophomore Peyton Smith (Stuttgart, Germany) at No. 3 doubles. Junior Rosalie DiRado (Gansevoort, N.Y.) picked up a victory at No. 6 singles.

            Sophomore Annette Kaminski (Southington, Conn.) put up a strong battle for Johnson State against Duggan at No. 2 singles before falling, 6-4, 6-2.

            PSU, 3-2 overall, is home again on Wednesday against Castleton State College (3:30 p.m.), while Johnson State, 1-6, returns home to host Castleton next Saturday at 1:00 .m.
