Bentley too strong for PSU Women's Swimming/Diving

Panthers fall in dual meet vs Falcons

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore Nicola Mancini (Falmouth, Maine) set a pool record in the three-meter diving Sunday afternoon to highlight Bentley University's 164-109 victory over Plymouth State University in a women's swimming and diving meet at the PSU Natatorium.

Mancini scored 264.80 points to win the three-meter diving for Bentley (5-1) and break the mark of 249.35 set by Kate Sorenson of Wellesley College in 2007.  Mancini also scored 228.40 points to capture the one-meter diving.

Three Falcons swimmers were also double-winners as Bentley swept first place in all 16 events in the meet.  Junior Nadine Edwards (Danbury, Conn.) won the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.59) and 500-yard free (5:41.75), senior Amanda Le (Chelmsford, Mass.) took the 50-yard breaststroke (33.05) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.15), and freshman Kaitlin McGahie (Boylston, Mass.) was first in the 50-yard free (25.91) and 100-yard individual medley (1:04.94).

The Panthers were led by junior Sam Carberry (Shrewsbury, Pa.), who took second place in the 100-yard backstroke with a season-best time of 1:05.93, and earned a pair of third-place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly (1:07.09) and 100-yard IM (1:11.37).

Freshman Katie Wyman (Portsmouth, N.H.) was runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:20.75), and classmate Meaghan Doherty (Charlestown, Mass.) touched the wall third in both the 50-yard breast (37.80) and 100-yard breast (1:20.90).  Sophomore Kelly Merkle (Salem, N.H.) was also third in the 50 fly (32.19) and 100 free (1:03.78).

PSU, 1-4, is back in the pool next Saturday in a tri-meet at Bridgewater State University with Rhode Island College.  Bentley returns home to host Saint Michael's College Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.
