Panthers remain unbeaten and tied for first in Little East

            PLYMOUTH, N.H.  – The Plymouth State University women's tennis team remained perfect on the season Saturday afternoon with a 9-0 victory over Western Connecticut State University in a Little East Conference women's tennis match at the P.E. Center Indoor Courts.

            The Panthers kept their unbeaten streak alive, improving to 8-0 overall and tied for first place at 4-0 in the Little East. It is the best start in the program's history. Western Conn. dropped to 3-6 overall and 1-3 against conference opponents.

            The Colonials gave the Panthers some challenges in doubles. After the Jakubas sisters, Zara and Sunny (Califon, N.J./Voorhees), combined for an 8-1 triumph at No. 1, junior Nitsa Ioannides (El Cajon, Calif.) and sophomore Nikki Lund (Hingham, Mass.) pulled out an 8-5 triumph at No. 2 and freshman Cassidy Wells (Colchester, Vt.) and senior Rosalie DiRado (Gansevoort, N.Y.) were 9-7 winners at No. 3.

            PSU coasted to victories in the top five singles matches to secure the team winw, with four of the five victories coming by 6-0, 6-0 scores. DiRado needed a little more work, posting a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 6.

            The Panthers return to action Monday with a make-up match at Salem State University (3:30 p.m.) PSU will have to avoid looking ahead to next Saturday's match against LEC co-leader and also undefeated Rhode Island College. Western Connecticut is back on the court Tuesday at Worcester State.
