PSU Women's Tennis downs Western Connecticut

Panthers capture fourth straight with win over Colonials

            DANBURY, Conn. – The Plymouth State University women's tennis team handed Western Connecticut State University a 6-1 defeat Saturday afternoon at the O'Neill Center in a shortened match that had to be moved indoors due to ongoing challenges with the weather.

            PSU swept the doubles matches and senior Zara Jakubas (Califon, N.J.) and sophomore Sunny Jakubas (Califon, N.J.) won in straight sets at No. 1 and No. 2 singles to lead the Panthers. Junior Irene Ireme (Concord, N.H.) was also a double-winner for PSU.

            PSU won its fourth match in a row to improve to 5-4 overall and 5-1 in the LEC. Western falls to 6-3 on the season and 1-3 in the Little East.

            The Panthers host Lyndon State Tuesday on Senior Day at the Holderness School Courts.
