Box Score Panthers sweep singles matches to claim Little East victory
GORHAM, Maine – Plymouth State University swept all six singles matches and two of three doubles encounters Tuesday afternoon to defeat the University of Southern Maine, 8-1, in a Little East Conference women's tennis match at the Gorham High School Courts.
With their second straight victory, the Panthers moved over the .500 mark to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play. The winless Huskies dropped their fifth straight match to fall to 0-5 and 0-3 in LEC matches.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
* Sophomores Megan Wallace (Moultonborough, N.H.) and Kelley Corson (Exeter, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas), who combined to win the number three doubles match 8-3, won their number two and three singles matches in straight sets.
* Freshman Alex Dunn (Jaffrey, N.H.) and sophomore Megan Wheeler (Manchester, N.H.) matched Wallace and Corson winning at number two doubles 8-3 and sweeping through their number five and six singles matches.
* PSU also got singles wins from sophomore Irene Ireme (Concord, N.H.) at No. 1 and senior Rachel Gustafson (Belchertown, Mass.) at No. 4.
* Freshman Mackenzie Colby (Southport, Maine) and sophomore Courtney Jordan (Portland, Maine) combined to win Southern Maine's lone point at No. 1 doubles in a tiebreaker over Ireme and Gustafson.
NEXT MATCH
Southern Maine will host Thomas College on Thursday (4:00 p.m.) for a non-conference match at GHS. Plymouth State is off until Saturday (1:00 p.m.) when it travels to the University of Massachusetts Boston for an LEC match.
