Box Score

Lindeberg turns aside 13 shots in LEC setback

BOSTON, Mass. – The Plymouth State University men's soccer team was shutout by the University of Massachusetts Boston in a Little East Conference (LEC) matchup, 3-0, at James Cotter Field. UMB senior Daniel Morales (San Diego, Calif.) recorded a goal and two assists to lead the Beacons to their first LEC win of the fall.

Plymouth State freshman goalkeeper Linus Lindeberg (Stockholm, Sweden) was credited with a career-high 13 saves on 16 shots and made several point-blank stops to keep the game within reach for the Panthers. With the setback PSU falls to 1-6-0 (0-2 LEC), while the Beacons improved to 4-1-2 (1-1 LEC).

Beacon's forward Guilherme Barbosa (Saugus, Mass.) gave UMass Boston the lead for good just under 14 minutes in. He received a cross from Morales that he chested down, before ripping a one-time volley to the near post to put the hosts up 1-0.

Morales blasted home a penalty kick at 62:38 to open up a two-goal lead for UMass Boston and added an assist less than a minute later, to help the Beacons to a 3-0 victory. Freshman Jake Davenport (Weymouth, Mass.) scored his third goal of the year on a one-timer to complete the scoring.

The Panthers return to the pitch next Saturday (Sept. 30) when LEC foe Eastern Connecticut State University visits Arold Field for a 1:00 p.m. match.
