PSU Women's Swimming & Diving dunks Albertus Magnus

Panthers control first-year program in home-opening win 

            PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore Madelin Svetin (Topsham, Maine) posted the top time in all three of her individual events as Plymouth State University controlled first-year program Albertus Magnus, 101-64, to win a women's swimming & diving dual meet in the team's home-opener at the PSU Natatorium on Friday evening.

            Svetin was first to touch the wall in the 50-yard backstroke, 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard IM, while classmate Ellie Wilson (Darnestown, Md.) and freshman Jessica McGregor (New Boston, N.H.) were the top finishers in two events each.

            Prior to the meet Plymouth State recognized senior diver Casey Allaire (Mattapoisett, Mass.) during a special Senior Day ceremony.

            Plymouth State improves to 3-1 on the season, while the Falcons continue to look for the program's first dual meet win.

            How it Happened:

  • Svetin notched season-best times in the backstroke, finishing the 50-yard in 30.68 and the 100-yard in 1:05.43. She also finished first in the 100-yard IM with a personal record time of 1:09.09.
  • Wilson was the fastest in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:13.64, and also the 100-yard butterfly after posting a 1:16.00.
  • McGregor outswam the competition in the 50-yard breaststroke (36.76) and 50-yard butterfly with a season-best 30.80.
  • Other PSU event winners were junior Sylvie Donnell (Warren, N.H.) in the 50-yard freestyle (29.97), junior Cammie Turell (Bowie, Md.) in the 100-yard freestyle (58.24), freshman MacKenzie Brady (Rochester, N.H.) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:26.61) and classmate Sophia Holt (Sylvania, Ohio) in the 500-yard freestyle (6:13.62).

 

            Teaming Up:

  • The Panthers finished one-two in the 200-yard medley relay, with the top foursome of Svetin, sophomore Gabby Rowe (Harpswell, Maine), Turell and freshman Maddie Gifford (West Ossipee, N.H.) posting a time of 2:13.48.
  • PSU also had the top time in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Brady, McGregor, Donnell and Turell joined forces to finish in 1:55.29.

 

            Straight From the Coach's Mouth:

            "It was wonderful to see so many good times in our first home meet of the year," said head coach Anne Barbeau.

 

            Up Next:

  • The Panthers are off next week for the Thanksgiving holiday, but return to the pool on Dec. 7 (1:00 p.m.) for a dual meet with Rhode Island College at Bryant University.
