BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Freshman
Tessa LaBarre (North Smithfield, R.I.) earned a straight sets win at No. 4 singles, but second-seeded Bridgewater State University held off third-seeded Plymouth State University, 5-1, in the semifinal round of the Little East Conference (LEC) Women's Tennis Tournament at Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon.
Plymouth State ends its season with an 11-5 mark, while the Bears advance to the finals against top-seeded Rhode Island College on Saturday (Oct. 23).
LaBarre caps an impressive rookie campaign to lead the team in wins, while PSU posted a fourth season of ten-plus wins in the last five years, only missing out after playing a significantly reduced schedule last spring.

How it Happened:
- Juniors Kira Winter (Eliot, Maine) and Megan Marshall (Dartmouth, Mass.) nearly pulled out a win at No. 1 doubles, falling by a narrow 8-6 margin.
- LaBarre and freshman Elena Cardoso (Hudson, Mass.) fell at No. 3 pairs by an 8-3 score, while senior Julie Miller (Woburn, Mass.) and sophomore Camilla Puzio (Holden, Mass.) fell 8-2 at No. 2.
- LaBarre got the Panthers on the board with her 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles, but the hosts picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 5 to earn the win.
By the Numbers:
- LaBarre wraps up her first season with a 12-3 record. Miller and Cardoso were second on the team with nine singles wins apiece.
- LaBarre and Cardoso proved to be the top doubles tandem after going 8-4 as a pair. Miller and Puzio teamed up to win seven matches on the season.
- The match marked the final competition for Miller.
