DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Freshman
Amelia Brown (Meredith, N.H.) and sophomore
Sarah Asciutto (Manchester, Vt.) both went undefeated to help the Plymouth State University women's tennis team to a second place finish at the Corsair Spring Fling hosted by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth at Somerset Berkely Regional High School on Friday.
The duo each won their two singles matches, while also going 3-0 each in doubles play. After slipping to Bridgewater State University, 6-4, in round one, Plymouth State toppled the University of St. Joseph by an 8-2 margin in round two before earning a 6-4 win over UMass Dartmouth in the final round.

How it Happened (Bridgewater State):
- Junior Megan Marshall (Dartmouth, Mass.) won her singles match by a 4-0 margin, while Asciutto held off her opponent for a 4-3 win.
- Asciutto teamed up with freshman Elena Cardoso (Hudson, Mass.) for a 4-1 win in doubles play, with Brown and junior Alyssa Bettencourt (West Brookfield, Mass.) blanked the competition, 4-0.
How it Happened (St. Joseph):
- The Panthers took four of six singles matches, with Bettencourt and senior Julie Miller (Woburn, Mass.) picking up 4-1 victories.
- Brown and freshman Tessa LaBarre (North Smithfield, R.I.) also claimed singles wins with each topping the opposition, 4-2.
- PSU swept doubles play for the decisive win. Bettencourt paired with Cardoso for a 4-1 win, while Brown and sophomore Camilla Puzio (Holden, Mass.) won their match by the same score.
- Miller and LaBarre earned a 4-2 victory, while Marshall and Asciutto held off the opposition by a 4-3 margin.
How it Happened (UMass Dartmouth):
- PSU split its six singles matches with the host Corsairs with all three wins coming by a 4-1 score.
- Miller, Brown and Asciutto earned the wins for the Panthers.
- PSU took three of four in pairs play to secure the win.
- The tandems of Miller and Marshall, and LaBarre and Cardoso both went 4-0, with Asciutto and Brown matching up for a 4-1 win.
