WSOC: Siewierski, Haik lead Panthers to blowout of Nichols

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Senior Taylor Siewierski (Colebrook, N.H.) and junior Emily Haik (Westerly, R.I.) each scored a pair of goals as Plymouth State University ran past Nichols College, 6-0, in non-conference women's soccer action on Senior Day at Arold Field on Tuesday afternoon.

Siewierski scored twice around a goal by senior Sarah Hicks (Sutton, Mass.) to give the Panthers a 3-0 first half lead. Haik added a beautiful header goal in the 77th minute, before PSU struck twice in the final 39 seconds, including another Haik header, to account for the final score.

Top Performers: How it Happened:
  • Nichols had an early scoring chance as senior Maegan Roy (Thompson, Conn.) made a run down the left side in the 2nd minute, but Register controlled the shot.
  • Siewierski got the scoring started in the 16th minute when she chipped a shot over the goalkeeper's head from 22 yards out for a 1-0 advantage.
  • PSU doubled its lead in the 28th minute as sophomore Ashley Plante (Concord, N.H.) split a pair of Bison with a feed to Hicks, who made a move around the last defender and finished with a left foot to the low right corner.
  • Siewierski struck again in the 36th minute when she lofted a bending ball from the top right corner of the box off the far post and in to make it 3-0.
  • The Panthers nearly pushed the lead to four in the final seconds of the half when junior Mary Kate McMakin (Merrimack, N.H.) sent a beautiful feed to sophomore Emma Simkewicz (Westminster, Mass.), whose shot rolled just wide of the goal.
  • Plymouth State continued to apply offensive pressure throughout the final 45 minutes. Geyselaers made a long run along the right side before lifting a centering feed at the goal line to the head of Haik to balloon the lead to 4-0 in the 77th minute.
  • Seta delivered a perfect corner to the edge of the six and Haik's strong header went over the keeper to push the advantage to 5-0 with just 39 seconds remaining and junior Alanna Joyce (Windham, Maine) capped the scoring with just one second left on the clock with a chip shot from the right side just inside the far post.
By the Numbers:
  • The game was the first multi-goal game for both Siewierski and Haik.
  • Seta added a pair of assists, while freshman Ana Fernandez (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) notched her first career point with an assist on the final tally.
  • Register finished with six saves to finish with yet another clean sheet. She has yet to allow a goal this season, improving to 4-0-0 with four shutouts.
  • PSU held an 11-9 edge in shots. The Panthers had nine shots on goal, with six resulting in scores.
  • This was just the third meeting between the two teams. The Panthers earned a 2-0 on the road during the 2019 season, with the Bison posting a 1-0 win at Arold Field in 2018.
