DANBURY, Conn. – Junior
Megan Marshall (Dartmouth, Mass.) and freshmen
Tessa LaBarre (North Smithfield, R.I.) and
Elena Cardoso (Hudson, Mass.) all won twice as Plymouth State University got back to its winning ways with a 7-2 victory over Western Connecticut State University in a Little East Conference (LEC) women's tennis match at the Westside Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.
Marshall picked up wins at No. 1 singles and doubles, while LaBarre and Cardoso teamed up at No. 3 doubles. LaBarre had to rally for a three-set win at No. 3 singles, as Cardoso didn't surrender a game at No. 5 singles.
Plymouth State improves to 9-2 (5-1 LEC), while WestConn drops its third straight to fall to 3-9 (2-5 LEC).
The Basics:

How it Happened:
- Marshall joined forces with sophomore Sarah Asciutto (Manchester, Vt.) to earn an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, while LaBarre and Cardoso earned an 8-2 win at No. 3.
- WestConn picked up a point with a win at No. 2 pairs.
- Marshall went 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. WestConn cut the deficit to 3-2 after taking No. 2 singles, but the Panthers won out the rest of the way.
- LaBarre rallied after dropping the first set for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3 and senior Julie Miller (Woburn, Mass.) earned a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles.
- Cardoso cruised through the competition at No. 5 without dropping a game, and sophomore Camilla Puzio (Holden, Mass.) battled for a 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 6.
By the Numbers:
- PSU improves to 19-6 against WestConn, winning each of the last 13 head-to-head meetings.
- LaBarre leads the Panthers with a 9-2 mark in singles play, while Cardoso and Miller each have seven singles wins on the season.
- The duo of LaBarre and Cardoso is 6-1 on the year. While Marshall and Asciutto have only been paired up twice, the results have been good as the pair are 2-0.
