WORCESTER, Mass. – Graduate student
Peter Laviolette (Longboat Key, Fla.) tallied a goal and two assists as Plymouth State University toppled Worcester State University, 4-1, in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's ice hockey game at the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center on Saturday night.
After a scoreless first period, Laviolette set up sophomore
Jeromey Rancourt (Lewiston, Maine) midway through the second during a penalty kill for the game's first score. Four minutes later Laviolette buried a goal of his own, but the Lancers cut the deficit to one late in the stanza.
PSU would tack on two third period goals to hold off Worcester State and earn the 4-1 victory.
Plymouth State improves to 4-1-1 (2-0-1 MASCAC), while the Lancers go to 3-5-0 and 2-2-0 in the MASCAC.

How it Happened:
- The Panthers pummeled the Worcester State goal during the opening period, firing 18 shots on net, but the game remained scoreless into the second.
- Plymouth State was on the penalty kill when Laviolette set up Rancourt to start the scoring at 10:13, and Laviolette would strike again 4:30 later.
- Worcester State broke through with just 1:56 left in the frame to make it a 2-1 game.
- PSU got some breathing room just under eight minutes into the final stanza when senior Colin Stevens (Concord, N.H.) lit the lamp, and a minute later sophomore Whim Stalberg (Gotenburg, Sweden) converted on the power play to account for the final score.
By the Numbers:
- Junior Brendahn Brawley (Morton, Pa.) made 16 saves to earn the win for the Panthers.
- Plymouth State finished with a 38-17 advantage in shots.
- Freshman Ethan Stuckless (Conception Bay South, Newfoundland), sophomores Colin Tracy (Bow, N.H.) and Brett Lockhart (Braintree, Mass.), junior Jovan Zimmerman (Boulder, Colo.) and senior Simon Besner (North Lancaster, Ontario) all picked up assists.
- Plymouth State has dominated the head-to-head matchup, going 30-6-3 against the Lancers since the 2007-08 season.
