PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Sam McCann (Berlin, N.H.) and freshman Vanessa Bryan (Stoneham, Mass.) both homered in the opener, and graduate student Jen Landers (Berlin, N.H.) had three hits in the nightcap as Plymouth State University scored 12 runs in both ends of a double header sweep of Rhode Island College in Little East Conference (LEC) softball action at Bazar Softball Complex on Friday.

  • Bryan led off the third with a lined shot to right field and raced around the bases, sliding into home just ahead of the throw to extend the lead to 3-0.
  • PSU took advantage of three straight walks in the fourth. Freshman Jersey Strum (Somersworth, N.H.) drove in a run with a single, Bryan added a run-scoring infield hit and two runs crossed the plate after a RIC error as the lead grew to 7-0.
  • The Anchorwomen got a run back in the bottom of the fifth, but the Panthers came right back the next half inning as Landers' single made it an 8-1 game.
  • McCann and junior Katie Burk (East Islip, N.Y.) singled to start the seventh and senior Mina Shaw (Mars, Pa.) had an infield hit to load the bases. Bryan came through with a two-run single and junior Lauren Archambault (Rehoboth, Mass.) drove in two with a base hit of her own to make it 12-1.
  • The hosts pushed three runs across in the bottom of the seventh, but Strum came on to shut down the rally.
By the Numbers (Game One):
  • Graduate student Caitlyn Miller (Lee, N.H.) improved to 6-4 after throwing the first five innings. She allowed four hits and just one run while striking out three. Freshman Nicole LeBrun (Concord, N.H.) worked a clean sixth, but got into trouble in the seventh and Strum recorded the final three outs.

Sophomore Rachyl Parslow (Temple, N.H.) reached on an infield hit and stole second and Landers scampered home when the catcher's throw went into center field.
