FARMINGTON, Maine – Plymouth State University fired ten shots on goal but was held off the scoreboard until the 84th minute as the University of Maine Farmington earned a 5-1 win over the Panthers in a non-conference men's soccer game at Leib Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Beavers got on the board in the 7th minute and held a 2-0 advantage at the half courtesy of a five-save effort by junior goalkeeper Jonah Sautter (Lisbon Falls, Maine).
Plymouth State kept the pressure on to open the second half, but Sautter was up to the challenge and the home team extended its lead to 5-0. PSU got on the board in the 84th minute on a free kick from freshman
Sondre Asheim (Klepp, Norway) to account for the final score.
Plymouth State dips to 0-2-0, while UMaine Farmington wins its season opener.

How it Happened:
- The hosts scored on a header just under seven minutes into the contest.
- Senior Logan Slattery (Franconia, N.H.) and sophomore Faisal Abdallah (Concord, N.H.) had opportunities to bring the Panthers even, but Sautter made a pair of saves and the home team pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 29th minute.
- The action picked up in the second half with PSU trying to scratch its way back into the game, but Sautter held strong and the Beavers' offense tacked on to push the lead to 5-0.
- Fighting to the final whistle, Asheim notched his first career goal in the 84th minute when his free kick slipped just inside the post.
By the Numbers:
- Sophomore goalkeeper Nicolas Cornejo (Durham, N.H.) made four saves for the Panthers.
- Abdallah led PSU with five shots, while freshman John Christie (Pembroke, Mass.) added three.
- Sautter finished with nine saves for the Beavers.
