MBB: Panthers show grit, complete victory over RIC

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University men's basketball team defeated Rhode Island College, 93-82, in Little East Conference (LEC) action Monday night at Foley Gymnasium.
 
The Panthers led for all but 20 seconds, but the Anchormen did not make it easy after trimming a sizeable lead to two points in the final three minutes of play. Plymouth State did not relinquish the lead, though, and closed the game with an 11-2 run to seal the win.
 
Sophomore Kyler Bosse (Manchester, N.H.) was dominant, leading all scorers with 30 points on 14-of-18 shooting. Senior Dante Rivera (Lawrence, Mass.) scored 14 points of his own, while sophomore Kevin Henry (Stratham, N.H.) added 13 points. Freshman Yansel Reyes (Manchester, N.H.) had his second career double-double scoring 10 points and handing out 11 assists.
 
Plymouth State improves to 9-9 (4-5 LEC), while Rhode Island College falls to 12-7 and 5-6 in league games.

Top Performers: How it Happened:
  • PSU opened the contest with a nine-point lead (10-1) with 16:07 on the clock.
  • The Panthers extended the lead to 13 (23-10) at the midpoint of the first half.
  • RIC was able to get within seven points as the Panthers took a 42-35 lead into halftime.
  • The Anchormen opened the second half, chipping away at the lead little by little, cutting the deficit all the way down to one point, 53-52, with 13:57 remaining.
  • Plymouth State immediately responded, using an 11-2 run to go up ten (64-54) and force a RIC timeout with 10:03 left.
  • PSU extended the lead to a game-high 15 points (78-63) with 5:09 left to play.
  • Again, the Anchormen clawed back to get within two, 82-80, with 2:24 remaining.
  • The Panthers played smart basketball on both sides of the court to close out the game with a decisive 11-2 surge.
By the Numbers:
  • Plymouth State shot an incredible 37-of-64 (57.8%) from the floor and 8-of-22 (36.4%) from three.
  • The Panthers outrebounded RIC 38-30. The teams were even on the offensive glass (12-12).
  • PSU had 29 assists on its 37 made baskets.
  • Plymouth State outscored the Anchormen in the paint, 38-22.
  • PSU's bench outscored the RIC reserves by a 27-12 margin.
  • This was the third time PSU eclipsed 90 points in a game this season.
  • RIC's Keyshaun Jacobs scored his 1,000th career point in the contest.
