The Basics:
- Plymouth State 3, Rivier 0
- Plymouth State (11-3)
- Rivier (11-4)
How it Happened:
- The opening set was tight throughout, with 10 ties and four lead changes. Senior Natalie Gravelle (Portsmouth, N.H.) pounded down a kill to give PSU a 19-18 lead late, but the Raiders answered to knot the score. McNeeley followed with a momentum-changing kill and Ryan and Sanderson teamed up for a huge block to make it 21-19. The Ryan-Sanderson combination added another block before Ryan teamed up with Gravelle to stuff a Rivier attack and a hitting error wrapped up a 25-19 win for the Panthers.
- Plymouth State took an early 9-4 lead after Stogner's ace, but Rivier would battle back for a 17-15 advantage. Flanagan notched consecutive kills as PSU leapfrogged back in front, 20-18, but the Raiders answered to tie the score again. Plymouth State earned set-point on Ryan's kill, but the visitors rallied with back-to-back kills to even things at 24-all. Stogner had the answer, though, finding the floor on consecutive rallies to close out the 26-24 win.
- Rivier held an 11-10 lead in set three before a service error sparked the Panthers. Flanagan was a wall at the net, playing a part in three blocks during a 5-0 run as PSU went ahead, 15-11. The hosts would maintain at least a four-point edge the rest of the way until Sanderson wrapped up the match with a kill.
By the Numbers:
- The Panthers finished with 12 team blocks. Flanagan (one solo, five assist) and Ryan (six assist) had six apiece, with Stogner adding five.
- Stogner tallied a match-best 12 kills and hit .409, while Flanagan had seven kills without an error to hit .412.
- Ryan added six kills and a .455 attack percentage as PSU hit .247 as a team.
- Freshmen Riley McDonough (Gilford, N.H.) and Kalista Butler (Philipsburg, Pa.) totaled 30 assists, while sophomore Makayla Marucci (Newton, Mass.) led the defense with 13 digs.
- Plymouth State holds a 13-7 advantage in the all-time series, winning each of the last three matchups.
