CASTLETON, Vt. – Senior
Trevor O'Mara (Litchfield, N.H.) and junior
Christian Kuechler (Chester, N.H.) each picked up wins as Plymouth State University dropped three matches at the LEC Quad at Castleton University on Saturday.
Host Castleton, ranked second in the latest New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) weekly rankings, cruised to a 54-0 win, before fifth-ranked Southern Maine topped the Panthers by a 48-6 margin. PSU closed out the day with a 45-6 setback to Rhode Island College.
Plymouth State heads into the holiday break with a 1-3 dual meet record. The Panthers return to action at the Williams Open on Jan. 7.

How it Happened:
- The Spartans wasted little time showing why they hold the number two ranking in NEWA with a dominant performance in PSU's first match of the day. Kuechler put up a battle at 197 pounds, falling by a narrow 10-8 decision, while O'Mara came up just short in a 10-3 decision at 149 pounds.
- Freshman Nick Savariego (Hillsdale, N.J.) picked up six points for the Panthers with a win by forfeit against Southern Maine. O'Mara put together another gritty performance in a losing effort, 8-6, by decision, while Kuechler lost by an 8-1 decision.
- O'Mara picked up the Panthers first bout win of the day after holding off his RIC opponent for a 2-1 victory by decision, while Kuechler doubled up his foe, 10-5, to account for the remainder of PSU's team points.
