BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman
Alyssa Craigie (Gilford, N.H.) but up a first set fight at No. 4 singles, but the University of Massachusetts Boston was in control for much of the match, topping Plymouth State University 9-0 in a Little East Conference (LEC) women's tennis match at the BC High Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.
Craigie was nipped in the opening set by a 6-4 margin, while senior
Megan Marshall (Dartmouth, Mass.) battled at No. 1 singles, but ultimately the Beacons were able to power past Plymouth State.
PSU moves to 1-2 (1-1 LEC), while UMass Boston stays unbeaten at 3-0 (2-0 LEC).

How it Happened:
- Craigie and sophomore Elena Cardoso (Hudson, Mass.) put in a strong effort at No. 2 doubles, but were overcome by an 8-3 margin, while Marshall and sophomore Tessa LaBarre (North Smithfield, R.I.) fell at No. 1 pairs 8-2.
- Marshall was held off at No. 1 singles in straight sets (6-3, 6-0), while Craigie fell at No. 4 by a 6-4, 6-0 margin.
- Cardoso was the only Panther to take a game in each set, coming up short at No. 5 singles by a 6-1, 6-2 score.
By the Numbers:
- Plymouth State owns a 17-5 advantage in the all-time series, though the teams have split the last eight meetings.
