CASTLETON, Vt. – The Plymouth State University men's soccer team and the Vermont State University (VTSU) Castleton Spartans, tied 1-1, in an LEC conference matchup at Dave Wolk Stadium Tuesday afternoon.
The Panthers took a 1-0 first half lead when sophomore
Massimo Korcsog (Ottawa, Ontario) scored a blast from distance into the top corner to put Plymouth State ahead. An early second half goal by the Spartans drew the game level, 1-1, where the score would remain. Junior
Walter Driscoll (Kittery Point, Maine) recorded the lone assist for the Panthers.
Sophomore
Parker Spaulding (Barre, Vt.) recorded a season high eight saves in the contest.
Plymouth State finds itself at 3-6-5 (0-4-3 LEC) with two games left to play, as VTSU Castleton now sits at 4-11-2 (1-4-2 LEC) on the season.

How it Happened:
- The Panthers struck first in the 17th minute on a blasted shot from Korcsog from outside the box to put Plymouth State up 1-0.
- PSU ramped up the pressure trying to double its lead, peppering the Spartan goalkeeper with shots through the middle part of the first half.
- Castleton had its first shot on goal in the 30th minute, but Spaulding was able to make a comfortable save to keep the Spartans off the board.
- The Spartans started to apply pressure in the waning moments of the opening half, but the Panthers were able to keep the lead into the locker room.
- Castleton drew level (1-1) only three minutes into the second half on a headed ball off a cross from the right side to increase the pressure on both teams to open play.
- The Panthers pressed to get the victory but could not walk away with the three points needed.
By the Numbers:
- Castleton outshot the Panthers 23-20 in the contest.
- Plymouth State recorded five corner kicks to the Spartans' seven.
- Shots on goal were nine for each team.
- It was Panthers second result at Dave Wolk stadium, it's first since a 4-3 win in 2008.
- Plymouth State holds a 4-9-1 record head-to-head dating back to 2007.
