PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Senior
Taylor Healey (Campton, N.H.) scored a pair of goals and classmate
Kayla Antonucci (Windham, N.H.) turned away all 12 shots she faced to lift Plymouth State University to a 2-0 win over Eastern Connecticut State University in a Little East Conference (LEC) field hockey game on Panther Field on Saturday.
PSU got on the board just 4:41 into the contest when junior
Jenna Stowell (Londonderry, N.H.) fired a shot that hit an Eastern Connecticut defender. Healey tracked the blocked shot and slammed it home for her 22nd goal of the season. The Warriors fired nine shots on cage in the first half, but Antonucci stood tall as PSU went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Early in the third quarter, Healey doubled the lead when she received a pass from senior
Mackenzie Labrie (Canaan, N.H.) in tight and went in alone on goal. She calmly shot the ball low and past the ECSU goalie for the 2-0 lead. The defensive battle ensued, as there was a total of just four shots on target between the two teams in the second half. Antonucci made three saves in the final two quarters to earn her third shutout of the season.
Prior to the game, Plymouth State honored its senior class in an on-field ceremony; Healey, Antonucci, Labrie,
Savanah Connor (Dover, N.H.),
Jenna Freni (Lynnfield, Mass.),
Athena Comeau (Rutland, Mass.),
Emma Lord (North Reading, Mass.) and
Piper Sherbert (Freeport, Maine).
