VB: Panthers steamroll Southern Maine

GORHAM, Maine – Junior Lilli Stogner (Weare, N.H.) pounded 13 kills and hit .423 as Plymouth State University routed the University of Southern Maine, 3-0 (25-7, 25-16, 25-11), in Little East Conference (LEC) women's volleyball action at Warren G. Hill Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

Stogner was dominant throughout, while fellow outside hitter, freshman Emma Hampton (Durham, N.H.), added six kills on ten swings. Plymouth State was never challenged in the contest, as the team posted a .430 attack percentage while coasting to a tenth straight win.

Plymouth State improves to 12-2 (3-0 LEC), while the Huskies drop to 4-11 (0-3 LEC).

The Basics:
  • Plymouth State 3, Southern Maine 0
    • Plymouth State (12-2, 3-0 LEC)
    • Southern Maine (4-11, 0-3 LEC)
How it Happened:
  • With PSU nursing a 4-3 lead, Stogner's smash sparked a 12-2 run. Hampton pounded three kills in the spurt, then served three straight aces as the lead ballooned to 22-6, before Stogner found the floor to close out the 25-7 win.
  • The Panthers maintained a slight edge early in set two before a kill from junior Lindsey Sanderson (Gilford, N.H.) ignited another PSU run. Freshman Abigale Bassingthwaite (Wentworth, N.H.) found the floor to make it 12-5 and Plymouth State remained in front. The hosts pulled within three at 17-14, but a service error and consecutive kills from Hampton helped restore a comfortable margin. Hampton closed out the 25-16 win with another service ace.
  • Sophomore Kalista Butler (Philipsburg, Pa.) served a pair of aces early to give PSU a quick 5-2 lead. Plymouth State stayed in front, as junior Imalay Rodriguez Martinez (Juncos, Puerto Rico) tortured the USM serve receive with several tough, short serves to extend the margin to 15-7 and the Panthers cruised from there as a Huskies' error wrapped up the 25-11 victory.
By the Numbers:
  • Stogner finished with 13 kills and just two errors on 26 attempts for a .423 attack percentage.
  • Hampton posted six kills on ten swings without an error, while Sanderson and Bassingthwaite each added four kills without an error.
