SALEM, Mass. – Sophomore
Will Redick (Collingwood, Ontario) recorded his second hat trick of the season to lift Plymouth State University to a 6-1 win over Salem State University in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's ice hockey game at Rockett Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman
Andrew Stuckless (Conception Bay South, Newfoundland) got the Panthers on the board 6:50 into the first and Redick doubled the lead in the opening minutes of the second period. Junior
Connor Tait (Boyds, Md.) also found the back of the net in the middle stanza for a 3-0 advantage heading to the second intermission.
Redick scored back-to-back goals in the first nine minutes of the third for his second hat trick of the year and third of his career and the teams traded late goals from there to account for the 6-1 final.
Plymouth State improves to 8-1-2 (6-0-2 MASCAC), while Salem State goes to 3-6-0 (3-4-0 MASCAC).
The Basics:

- Plymouth State (8-1-2, 6-0-2 MASCAC)
- Salem State (3-6-0, 3-4-0 MASCAC)
How it Happened:
- Plymouth State drew first blood at the 6:50 mark when freshman Patrick O'Connell (West Chester, Pa.) skated into the zone along the right side and threw a puck in front, where Stuckless banged it in for the 1-0 lead.
- The Panthers doubled the advantage in the opening three minutes of the second period when senior Carson Lanceleve (Stewiacke, Nova Scotia) poked the puck to Redick in the defensive zone. Redick skated through three Vikings and threw a turnaround backhand toward the net and the puck deflected off a defender's skate and in.
- Freshman Eddie Mulligan (Lincoln, R.I.) sent a long, off-balance pass from the circle in the defensive zone to Tait at the Salem State blue line for a breakout opportunity and Tait went to the backhand to beat the goalie in the five-hole with 6:09 left in the stanza.
- Redick potted his second of the game 4:03 into the third on a 3-on-2 when he received the puck from Tait at the right circle and whipped quick wrist shot inside the far post.
- He completed the hat trick during a power play less than five minutes later on another wrist shot from the right circle to make it 5-0.
- Salem State got one back midway through the period, but junior Cam Patton (Truro, Nova Scotia) answered with 4:12 left to play when he banged in a rebound to account for the final score.
By the Numbers:
- Redick now has 14 goals and 23 points through ten games played. He leads the country in goals, goals per game and assists per game. He also won 13-of-20 faceoffs.
- Senior Kalle Andersson (Taby, Sweden) stopped 35 shots to pick up the win.
- Plymouth State outshot the Vikings by a 20-6 margin in the opening period and 45-36 for the game.
- The Panthers scored on their only power play opportunity and successfully killed off all five Salem State power plays.
- PSU has won each of the last eight meetings and is 15-1-2 against the Vikings since the start of the 2017-18 season.
