Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Christopher J. Kilmer, Assistant Athletics Director, Athletics Communications

MBB: Bosse pours in 28 but sharp-shooting UMD tops Panthers

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Senior Kyler Bosse (Manchester, N.H.) poured in a season-high 28 points but the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth shot a sizzling 61% from beyond the arc to top Plymouth State University, 96-77, in Little East Conference (LEC) men's basketball action at the Tripp Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.

UMass Dartmouth stormed out of the gates, using a 15-0 surge to snag a quick double-digit lead, and the Corsairs never looked back.

Plymouth State slides to 4-6 (0-3 LEC), while UMass Dartmouth goes to 3-5 (2-0 LEC).

The Basics:
  • Plymouth State 77, UMass Dartmouth 96
    • Plymouth State (4-6, 0-3 LEC)
    • UMass Dartmouth (3-5, 2-0 LEC)
Top Performers: How it Happened:
  • UMass Dartmouth roared out to a 15-0 lead through the first 4:12 of action.
  • Bosse got the Panthers on the board with an old fashioned three-point play, but the hosts poured in another ten straight points.
  • Graduate student Giorgi Tsiklauri (Brooklyn, N.Y.) connected from distance midway through the opening frame and junior Kevin Newton-Delgado (Hopkinton, N.H.) laid in a putback to pull within 30-15.
  • Newton-Delgado's free throw cut the margin to 14 with 5:09 left in the half, but the hosts closed the half with a 14-9 run to lead 50-31 at the break.
  • UMD played with a 20-point advantage much of the second half. Plymouth State was able to whittle the deficit to 68-54 on a jumper from sophomore Torran Bosworth (Springfield, Mass.) with 12:02 left to play, but that was as close as the Panthers would get.
By the Numbers:
  • Plymouth State shot a respectable 46.8% from the field (29-of-62) and forced 15 UMD turnovers, but the Corsairs were 36-of-65 (55.4%) from the floor, including a ridiculous 17-of-28 (60.7%) from distance.
  • Bosse went 10-of-17 and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the line for his 28 points. He added seven boards.
  • Newton-Delgado ripped down a game-high nine rebounds and added eight points and three steals.
  • Tsiklauri finished with 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting with a team-best three assists.

Up Next:
  • Plymouth State closes out the fall semester with a trip to Salem State next Saturday (Dec. 16). Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
