BANGOR, Maine – Senior
Mackenzie Labrie (Canaan, N.H.) scored in her fifth straight game and classmate
Kayla Antonucci (Windham, N.H.) made seven saves but the Plymouth State University field hockey team suffered its first loss of the season, 2-1, in a non-conference game at Husson University at Dr. John W. Winkin Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon.
The game started with both teams trying to gain an advantage in field position but both defensive units stood strong to keep the game scoreless after one. The hosts started strong in the second quarter, scoring just 34 seconds into the frame. The Eagles added one at the buzzer to end the half for a 2-0 lead at the break.
Labrie got the Panthers on the board when she buried her eighth goal of the season 5:19 into the third quarter. Senior
Athena Comeau (Rutland, Mass.) received a feed from Labrie and carried the ball past the Husson goalkeeper but a defender knocked the ball loose. Labrie pounced on the loose ball and knocked it in to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Panthers had the field tilted in their favor for most of the fourth quarter but could not solve the Husson defense as the Eagles held on for the 2-1 win.
Plymouth State dips to 4-1 while Husson improves to 3-2.

- The game started as a defensive back-and-forth matchup.
- Neither team created much offense and the first quarter ended knotted at 0-0.

- Labrie scored her eighth of the year to pull within one.
- Labrie nearly tied it moments later but was denied by the Husson goalkeeper.
- Antonucci and the Panthers' made two key stops late to keep PSU's comeback hopes alive.
- Plymouth State kept the pressure on for a majority of the fourth quarter but couldn't solve the Husson defense.

- The only other meeting between the two teams came at the Zenaty Invitational at Springfield College during the 2013 season.
