FH: Healey, Labrie stay hot, Panthers cruise past Gordon

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Seniors Taylor Healey (Campton, N.H.) and Mackenzie Labrie (Canaan, N.H.) combined for seven goals and an assist to propel Plymouth State University over Gordon College, 10-0, in a non-conference field hockey game at Panther Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Prior to the game, both teams participated in an on-field ceremony as part of Plymouth State's annual Childhood Cancer Awareness game. PSU sold merchandise and accepted donations to support the Dana Farber Research Center for Pediatric Cancers.

Freshman Sarah Adamski (Windham, N.H.) scored her first career goal and added an assist, finding the back of the cage just 4:58 into the contest as the Panthers poured on the offense. Gordon's starting goalkeeper made several point-blank saves to keep the game close in the early going.

The second quarter began with the Panthers continuing their offensive pressure. Healey and Labrie each scored to push the margin to 3-0. PSU continued to press but did not add another one as the first half came to an end.

PSU started the third quarter where it left off as Healey deposited her second of the game after collecting her own rebound. Later in the quarter, senior Savanah Connor (Dover, N.H.) collected her first tally of the year, while Healey and Labrie added to the Panthers' lead.

Sophomore Jen Newick (Lee, N.H.) scored her first of the season midway through the fourth quarter and the Panthers cruised to the win.

Plymouth State moves to 2-0, while Gordon slides to 0-2.

How it Happened:
  • PSU opened the scoring just under five minutes into the game on Adamski's first of her career.
  • Gordon's defense kept the Panthers at bay for the remainder of the first quarter.
  • Plymouth State opened the scoring early in the second quarter on Healey's second goal of the season. Healey received a pass close to the net and converted to double the lead.
  • PSU kept the pressure on and Labrie buried one just over three minutes later. Senior Athena Comeau (Rutland, Mass.) and Labrie came in on the attack, and Comeau slipped a great pass around the defender before Labrie slammed home her third of the year.
  • Plymouth State carried a decisive 21-0 shot advantage and 3-0 lead on the scoreboard into halftime.
  • Healey buried her second of the game just 32 seconds into the third quarter.
  • Connor scored her first of the year late in the third to push the margin to 5-0.
  • Healey added her third of the game just over a minute later and Labrie tacked on another to make it a 7-0 game after the third quarter.
  • Labrie completed her hat trick with a tally 22 seconds into the fourth and Newick added her first of the season six minutes later.
  • Healey closed out the dominant performance with her fourth of the day with just under five minutes remaining as PSU cruised to the win.

  • PSU has dominated the head-to-head matchup, going 14-1 all-time against the Fighting Scots.
