PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University women's soccer team fell to the Gordon College Fighting Scots 4-1 in its home opener Friday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half, Plymouth State recorded the first goal of the game when sophomore
Molly Bellmore (Hebron, Conn.) stole the ball off a defender's foot and struck the ball into the top right corner from the edge of the box. The Panthers held the lead until the Scots tied the game in the 60th minute on path to scoring four answered goals to come out with the victory.

Plymouth State now goes to 0-2-2 on the season as Gordon College improves to 3-0-0.

How it Happened:
- It was an even first half as both teams were held to a stalemate, 0-0, through the first 45 minutes. Gordon edged the Panthers 3-2 on total shots in what started as a battle for field position.
- Plymouth State started the second half strong, bringing higher pressure to the Gordon back line. The pressure paid off when Bellmore scored her first goal of the season three minutes into the second half.
- The Panthers continued to win the midfield battle until in the 60th minute, Gordon scored an equalizer against the run of play to tie the game at one apiece.
- The Scots doubled their lead five minutes later on a counterattack that found Gordon behind the Panthers' defensive line and the goal was scored on a good one-time finish off a cross from the right side.
- Plymouth State attempted a late comeback, being forced to push numbers forward in the final fifteen minutes of play.
- Gordon took advantage, scoring its final two goals in the last three minutes, to put the game out of reach.
By the Numbers:
- Gordon outshot PSU 19-4 in the contest.
- PSU had three corner kicks to six for the Scots.
- Plymouth State recorded six saves to Gordon's two.
- Shots on goal were in the Fighting Scots' favor, 10-3.
- Bellmore led the team in total points in the 2022 season.
- The Panthers are now 3-8-3 all-time against Gordon dating back to 1994.
