WH: #11 Colby too strong for Panthers

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Senior Amelia Julian (Apple Valley, Minn.) made 28 saves, but #11 Colby College overpowered Plymouth State University, 9-0, in non-conference women's ice hockey action at Hanaway Rink on Tuesday afternoon.

The game opened with up-and-down action until Colby broke the ice midway through the first period. The Mules added a second tally four minutes later, then put the game out of reach with a four-goal second period to skate to the win.

Plymouth State slips to 3-7-0, while the Mules, ranked 11th in the latest USCHO.com national poll, improve to 7-1-0.

How it Happened:
  • The teams played evenly through the first several minutes until Colby broke through at the 10:11 mark of the first on a one-timer in the slot. The Mules tacked on a second tally just over four minutes later when a deep wrister found the back of the net.
  • The ice tilted in the Mules' favor during the middle stanza. Colby potted a power play marker 1:01 into the frame and pushed the lead to 4-0 just 12 seconds later.
  • The visitors added two more second-period tallies, including another power play strike with 2:51 left, to take a 6-0 advantage into the third.
  • Colby put the game out of reach with three goals in the third period to account for the final score.
