CASTLETON, Vt. – Plymouth State University won its second straight match, downing Vermont State University Castleton, 7-2, in a Little East Conference (LEC) women's tennis contest at Castleton Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon.
The Panthers raced out to a quick lead after sweeping doubles play with identical 8-4 scores. Senior
Elena Cardoso (Hudson, Mass.) was flawless in a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles, while PSU also posted straight set victories at Nos. 2, 5 and 6 en route to the victory.
Plymouth State bumps up to 3-4 (2-2 LEC), while the Spartans move to 4-7 (1-5 LEC).

How it Happened:
- Sophomore Chloe Ahern (Middleton, Mass.) and senior Tessa LaBarre (North Smithfield, R.I.) got things rolling with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles.
- Cardoso teamed up with junior Alyssa Craigie (Gilford, N.H.) at No. 2 pairs, also rolling to an 8-4 victory, while sophomores Sofia Orama (Marlborough, Conn.) and Maddie Lorenz (Jefferson, N.H.) following suit at No. 3.
- Cardoso didn't drop a game while cruising to the win at No. 4 singles, while LaBarre and Orama surrendered just three games in straight set wins at No. 2 and No. 6 singles.
- Lorenz faced a stiffer challenge at No. 5, but was able to come away with a 7-5, 6-2 win.
By the Numbers:
- Orama has been a staple at the bottom of the PSU lineup, with a team-leading 5-2 record.
- Cardoso picked up her fourth singles win of the year.
- Plymouth State is an impressive 26-6 in the all-time series.
