Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey | | Christopher J. Kilmer, Asst. Director of Communications for Athletics

WH: Biggin, Panthers topple Framingham State

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Senior Emily Biggin (Didsbury, Alberta) notched a goal and an assist to propel Plymouth State University to a 4-0 win over Framingham State University in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women's ice hockey game at Hanaway Rink on Thursday evening.

After a scoreless first period, Biggin knocked home a rebound just over two minutes into the second to start the scoring. Sophomore Lilli Warnock (Bernardsville, N.J.) followed just 31 seconds later, and the Panthers tacked on a pair of third-period tallies to put the game away.

Sophomore Karlee Lehner (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan) finished with 13 saves for her third shutout of the year.

PSU moves to 8-5-1 (5-0-1 MASCAC), while the Rams dip to 0-12-0 and 0-6-0 in conference play.

The Basics:
  • Plymouth State 4, Framingham State 0
    • Plymouth State (8-5-1, 5-0-1 MASCAC)
    • Framingham State (0-12-0, 0-6-0 MASCAC)
How it Happened:
  • For the second straight game the Panthers controlled the pace of play in the opening period but were unable to get on the board. Despite a 13-5 advantage in shots, the Framingham State goaltender was able to keep the game scoreless through one.
  • The Panthers struck twice in a 31-second span to open the second period. Biggin knocked in the rebound of a backhanded shot by junior Katie Porrello (Milford, Conn.) at the 2:06 mark, and Warnock blasted home a shot from the left circle off a feed from Biggin moments later to make it 2-0.
  • Plymouth State pushed the margin to 3-0 early in the third period when sophomore Emily Gerrie (Littleton, Colo.) found senior Robyn Grant (Airdrie, Alberta), who was streaking down the middle. Grant received the pass in the high slot and beat the Rams' goalie to the glove side.
  • Junior Jacqueline Martin (Smithfield, R.I.) capped the scoring with a wrist shot from just inside the blue line on the right side with 6:40 left to play.
By the Numbers:
  • Biggin's two points were a career best, while she tallied the second game-winner of her career.
  • Gerrie finished with a pair of assists.
  • Graduate student Lauren McNeil (Ottawa, Ontario) picked up her team-leading eighth assist of the season.
  • Plymouth State owned a decisive 50-13 advantage in shots.
  • Neither team was successful on the power play. The Panthers went 0-for-6, while Framingham State was 0-for-2.
  • PSU won 40-of-62 faceoffs (64.5%), with Porrell taking 15-of-21 to lead the way.
  • The meeting was the first between PSU and the first-year Framingham State program.
