MBB: WestConn defeats Panthers

DANBURY, Conn. – The Plymouth State University men's basketball team was defeated by the Western Connecticut State University Wolves, 89-65, in a Little East Conference (LEC) contest in the Stephen Feldman Arena in a Saturday matinee.
 
After a back-and-forth first half, the Wolves ripped off a 14-2 run to start the second half, giving WestConn an advantage too great for the Panthers to overcome. Senior Kevin Henry (Stratham, N.H.) again led the Panthers with 19 points, while junior Torran Bosworth (Springfield, Mass.) added 16 points for his second straight game. Senior Kevin Newton-Delgado (Hopkinton, N.H.) brought down a season-high 13 rebounds, adding four points in the losing effort for the Panthers.
 
The Wolves swept the season series for the third straight year.
 
Plymouth State slips to 9-8 (3-6 LEC), while the Wolves improve to 10-8 (6-3 LEC).

  • The teams were knotted at 11-11 with 15:10 remaining in the first half.
  • Plymouth State scored the next six points to take a 17-11 lead with 13:05 to go in the first.
  • After being tied at 29-29 with 4:13 to go until halftime, WestConn ended on a 13-4 run to take a 42-33 lead into the locker room.
  • Straight out of the break the Wolves sprinted to a 14-2 run, extending the margin to a 21-point lead (56-35) with 15:17 left in regulation.
  • The Panthers managed to get to within 13 points with 11:25 left in the contest but could get no closer as WestConn pulled away with the comfortable conference victory.
