PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Plymouth State University maintained its No. 2 position in the latest Grinold Chapter New England Division III Football Coaches Poll, the organization announced Tuesday.
The Panthers held steady during their bye week after opening the season with a perfect 5-0 (4-0 MASCAC) record. Plymouth State earned one first-place vote and 90 points in the poll, trailing only Endicott.
The Gulls were also idle last weekend, boasting a 4-1 record with ten first-place votes and 118 points. Salve Regina (4-1) sits third with 81 points, while Springfield (3-2) received the final first-place vote and is fourth with 76 points.
Framingham State appears in the Receiving Votes section of the poll – the only other MASCAC school to be included.
Plymouth State looks to keep the momentum when Anna Maria visits Panther Field on Saturday (Oct. 18). The AMCATS lead the conference in total offense, averaging more than 350 yards per game, while PSU's defense ranks second in the league in points allowed per game (19.6).
The New England Division III Football Poll is presented by the Jack Grinold/Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation, which also serves as the title sponsor of the weekly Gold Helmet Awards presented by the New England Football Writers Association throughout the season.
A panel representing four New England Division III playing conferences serves as the voters in this year's poll. Rankings will be released each week through November 18th. For more information on the Grinold Chapter of the National Football Foundation, visit
