PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Plymouth State University received two first-place votes and climbed two spots to second in this week's Grinold Chapter New England Division III Football Coaches Poll, the organization announced Tuesday.
The Panthers, off to their best start in nearly two decades, are the last unbeaten team in the region (5-0, 4-0 MASCAC) following a dominant 34-0 shutout at Dean College last weekend. PSU earned 93 points in the poll, trailing only Endicott.
The Gulls improved to 4-1, securing nine first-place votes and 117 points, while Salve Regina received the final first-place vote and ranks third with 84 points.
MASCAC rival Framingham State slide into a tie for ninth, and Anna Maria dropped out of the poll entirely.
Freshman
Jayden Graham (Rutland, Vt.) powered PSU's offense against Dean, rushing for a career-high 121 yards and a touchdown. Junior
Reece Davis (Livermore, Maine) put Plymouth State on the board first with a 10-yard TD run on the Panthers' first offensive play, and the team never looked back. Graham and senior
Shea McClellan (Abington, Mass.) capped the win with fourth-quarter touchdowns.
The New England Division III Football Poll is presented by the Jack Grinold/Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation, which also serves as the title sponsor of the weekly Gold Helmet Awards presented by the New England Football Writers Association throughout the season.
A panel representing four New England Division III playing conferences serves as the voters in this year's poll. Rankings will be released each week through November 18th. For more information on the Grinold Chapter of the National Football Foundation, visit
