WSWIM: Bailey, Kramer post wins in season-opener

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Senior Olivia Bailey (Wrentham, Mass.) and junior Ollie Kramer (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) combined for three individual victories as the Plymouth State University women's swimming team split a triple dual meet with the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) and Albertus Magnus College at Bruyette Natatorium on Friday.
 
The Panthers rolled to a 139-43 win over Albertus Magnus, but fell to host Saint Joseph, 156-103. The Blue Jays swept the meet, also defeating Albertus Magnus, 181-35.
 
Coming off an outstanding season, Bailey continued her dominance in the backstroke, winning both the 50-yard (31.59) and 100-yard (1:09.09) events while adding a runner-up finish in the 100-yard IM (1:11.80).
 
Kramer secured PSU's other individual win with a strong performance in the 500-yard freestyle (6:04.46) before placing second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:20.01).
 
Senior Jackie Gaigals (Rochester, N.H.) was second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:17.08) and third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:24.62), while junior Vickie Ni (Lebanon, N.H.) took second in the 50-yard freestyle (34.73).
 
Freshmen Caitlyn McIntyre (Duxbury, Mass.), Savana Vieira (Berkley, Mass.) and Kelsey Kuligowski (Manchester, Conn.) all swam well in their collegiate debuts. McIntyre placed third in both the 50-yard backstroke (35.48) and 500-yard freestyle (6:38.80), Vieira claimed third in the 200-yard freestyle (2:40.68) and 50-yard butterfly (39.36), and Kuligowski added a third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (36.65).
 
Gaigals, Vieira, Kramer and junior Laurel Bennett (Rindge, N.H.) teamed up to win the 200-yard freestyle by nearly 15 seconds (2:01.93), while Bailey, Gaigals, McIntyre and Bennett combined for a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay in 2:12.37.
