WESTFIELD, Mass. – Junior
Aidan Fritz (Colchester, Conn.) earned Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) recognition with a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll, the league announced Monday.
Fritz tallied eight tackles, including 0.5 tackles for loss, and forced a fumble to help Plymouth State University hold off Massachusetts Maritime Academy, 14-10, in a Homecoming thriller on Saturday. He was active early, recording five first-quarter tackles and assisting on a five-yard loss midway through the second. Fritz came up big again late in the half, forcing a fumble to halt the Buccaneers' drive at the PSU 22-yard line with under two minutes to play, keeping the game scoreless at the break.
Plymouth State rallied late to stay unbeaten (4-0, 3-0 MASCAC). Mass. Maritime led 10-7 with the ball and under four minutes remaining, but the Panthers forced a turnover on downs. PSU then converted a fourth-and-10 and a third-and-10 with clutch completions before junior
Jacob Morris (Kennebunk, Maine) hauled in a two-yard touchdown pass with five seconds left to seal the win.
Fritz leads the Panthers with 26 total tackles and 15 solo stops, while his 6.5 tackles per game rank 15th in the MASCAC. He is also tied for the conference lead with two forced fumbles.
The Panthers head to Dean College on Saturday (Oct. 4) for a noon kickoff against the Bulldogs.
