PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Junior
Connor Strobel (Butler, Pa.) made 31 saves, but Plattsburgh State University used a pair of shorthanded goals to upend Plymouth State University, 4-0, in non-conference men's ice hockey action from Stafford Ice Arena on Saturday night.
Plattsburgh State opened the scoring with three minutes left in the first period, then added short-handed goals late in the second and early in the third to take a 3-0 lead. The Cardinals capped the scoring with a power play goal just before the final horn.
Plymouth State had six power play opportunities but could not break through, as the Plattsburgh State goalie registered 34 saves for the win.
Plymouth State falls to 0-2-0, while Plattsburgh State improves to 2-0-0.

How it Happened:
- Plattsburgh State worked a give-and-go to set up a shot to the top-right corner for a 1-0 lead with just over three minutes left in the first period.
- The Cardinals doubled the lead with 1:41 left in the second on a two-man rush to make it 2-0.
- The hosts extended the lead to 3-0 with another shorthanded goal 1:59 of the third following a 2-on-1 break.
- Freshman Tucker Shedd (Holt, Mich.) hit the post during the same power play.
- The Panthers maintained zone pressure, generating two more power play chances over the next seven minutes, but Plattsburgh State's goalie did not budge.
- Plattsburgh State closed the scoring with a one-timer just before the final horn.
By the Numbers:
- Strobel's 31 saves were the second most of his career.
- Freshman Étienne Tremblay-Mathieu (Québec City, Québec) led the Panthers with six shots, while junior Severi Sulonen (Turku, Finland) added five.
- Plattsburgh State held a narrow 35-34 edge in shots.
- Plymouth State was 0-for-6 on the power play; Plattsburgh State was 1-for-4.
